Swann's Way ~ Marcel Proust

Long-winded?  Yes.  Beautiful? Yes.  Proust's In Search of Lost Time, published in seven volumes from 1909 to his death in 1922, is considered to have had a profound influence on twentieth-century literature.   It takes some patience to get through his works, but the rewards are worth it.   The descriptions are too die for.


...it half-concealed beneath a spangled veil of buttercups.  For the buttercups grew past numbering in this spot which they had chosen for their games among the grass, standing singly, in couples, in whole companies, yellow as the yolk of eggs, and glowing with an added lustre...
