The Land of the Green Plums is a Nobel Prize winning book (1998) by Herta Muller. I can't even remember now how it found a place on my reading list, but I'm glad it did. The author was born to a German family in Romania in 1953. She emigrated to Germany in 1987. She has written several books, and I may read more of her work at a later time. The book is haunting and reads like sparse, bare poetry. It tells of a small group of college students living in Romania under communism. I recommend it!
